“I know what to do. I just don’t do it.”

“I just love food too much to eat healthy.”

“I’d be good for a week and then I’d lose steam and have to start over again.”

“I have tried everything and nothing has worked.”

You are not alone if you have ever thought or said these words.

If you want to eat in a way that supports and honours your health, without cutting out your favourite foods or micromanaging every aspects of your nutrition…

If you want to have the skills to navigate social events, birthday parties, celebrations, or vacations with ease, trust, and confidence in yourself…

If you want to find a way of eating that is enjoyable, doable, and simple, without letting healthy eating become a burden and consume your life…

You are in the right place.

You don’t need another diet plan or a new 30-day challenge. They may temporarily make you feel motivated and feel like you are taking charge of your life, but they are not the solution and they will not lead to long lasting results.

What you need is to practice eating skills to honour your satisfaction and health, cultivate a mindset that supports your goals and values, and foster a healthy relationship with food to build a solid foundation for habits and behaviours that will stick and results you can maintain.

This is right for you if you…

  • Are sick of setting goals to eat healthy and just can’t stick to the plan you had laid out for yourself…
  • Feel anxious, worried, or stressed trying to figure out how and what to eat in social situations and you long to enjoy your favourite meals with your friends and family, live your life, or go on vacation, without feeling stressed, shame, guilt, or feeling like you will derail all of your progress.
  • Are frustrated by the feasibility of fad diets, eliminating food groups, or cookie cutter meal plans and you just want to find a way of eating that is enjoyable, realistic, and still honour your health.
  • Are tired of being told what to do and feel like your personal values, preferences, cultural background, and lifestyle are never taken into account.
  • Feel confused by all the conflicting messages out there about healthy eating and want to gain clarity on how to get started in a way that works best for YOU.
  • Want to feel confident in your body, gain trust in yourself, and feel satisfied and energized by the food you eat, rather than second guessing every decision you make around food.
  • Are ready to focus on behaviour change, practice eating skills, and cultivate a flexible mindset so that you can create long-lasting results that actually stick.

Why coaching?

You are not purchasing a program to follow. There are no meal plans, no “approved” foods, rigid structures for your nutrition.

Coaching means we collaborate and work together closely. My role as the coach is to be here to support you to clarify your values and motivations for change, pinpoint your short and long term goals, identify potential obstacles and proactively problem solve, facilitate mindset shifts, behaviour change, and skill building.

My Coaching Pillars

Compassion First

Beating yourself up, shaming or guilting yourself is rarely helpful for behaviour change (not to mention it feels awful) despite what some health and fitness gurus may say. I am here to support you compassionately and without judgement. I am here to support you to learn this skill too so that you learn how to be kind and gentle to yourself and also be fierce and hold yourself accountable on your goals when needed.

Behaviour Change

Willpower, motivation, disciplines… they are not what drives behaviour change. Your mindset, skills, and habits are the secret ingredients you need for behaviour change. Skills are abilities you have to do different things and they are something you can continue to improve on. Your mindset determines how you interpret and respond to different situations. Habits are behaviours you routinely engage in without much thoughts and they can have a huge impact on whether you are moving toward your goals or not. I will support you to shift your mindset, build new skills, and create more health promoting habits to get you closer to your goals.

Relationship with food

Nutrition is more than what you eat. It is also about HOW and WHY you eat. Your relationship with food affects your perception of progress and will ultimately affect your behaviours around food. Fostering a healthy relationship with food is a critical component to support healthful eating behaviours.

Values driven and function focused

Rather than seeing behaviours as good vs. bad or healthy vs. unhealthy, we are going to look at it based on its purpose and how it might help you live the life you want in a meaningful way. Your health and wellness goals are meant to enhance your life. What’s the point of any “healthy” behaviours if they are holding your back from living your life?

Realistic and flexible

This doesn’t mean we are only going to set really easy goals and you are never going to push yourself. Growth happens outside of your comfort zone and you will definitely learn to push yourself at times. It simply means that we are going to approach behaviour change in a way that allows you to pivot and adjust expectations as your circumstances and resources change. Your life is not static and sometimes we need to lower the barriers to entry so that you can continue to engage in actions that are impactful and effective without running yourself to the ground.

What you will get out of coaching

  • Empowered with a diverse set of eating skills that you can apply in a variety of situations.
  • Confidence with your food choices in different settings (e.g., at home, birthday parties, family gatherings, or dining out).
  • Trust in yourself and believing you know what is best for you and your body.
  • Feeling heard and understood with compassionate and supported by personalized guidance and feedback that’s tailored based on YOUR needs.
  • Connected with your body with the skills to tune in, listen to your hunger and fullness cues, and stop eating when full.
  • A way of eating that is satisfying, enjoyable, health-promoting, and aligned with your personal and cultural preferences, health and fitness goals, and lifestyle.
  • Tangible and lasting changes in your habits, behaviours, and mindset.
  • The goal is for you to have the skills and the tools you need so that you can continue to maintain and excel at your health and wellness goals even after we stop coaching.

What does 1:1 Coaching look like?

There are two “tiers” of coaching available, and both of them look like this:

Initial Consultation

You are uniquely you. Why settle for a cookie cutter program when you can have one that is tailored toward your goals, needs, preferences, and values?

I am going to spend time getting to know you, your lifestyle, what’s important to you, your challenges, and your goals & visions. Together we will determine how to move forward and the actions to take. You are in the driver seat throughout the entire process because YOU are the expert of yourself and your own life.

Daily Accountability & Reflection

After our initial consultation, you will set 1-2 clear goals that are anchored by your values and your future vision. You will track your progress and reflect daily on what went well and how you want to act tomorrow.

Ongoing Support & Collaboration

Coaching, feedback, and support are necessary to help you to develop the skills and habits necessary to achieve your goals and maintain your results! You will have either weekly or bi-weekly contact with your coach, where you will receive feedback, support, and coaching based on your unique needs. Together we will have a game plan for how to move forward until the next check-in.

You also have access to your coach in-between check-ins, via a client web portal or mobile app. You may also receive activities and/or resources to facilitate ongoing practices of the skills you need to thrive.

Coaching Tiers

Depending on your budget and how much support you need, there are three different “tiers” of coaching options for you to choose from.

Not sure which tier of coaching is the right choice for you? Wondering if you are ready for coaching?

What my clients are saying…

Working with Angela allowed me to have a better relationship with food, exercise and the way I view my body. She was able to help me shift my mindset and teach me how to incorporate small goals into my day so that I was more aligned with my values. Angela was extremely attentive, thorough and compassionate through the entire process. I 100% recommend!

Angela took the time to explain the basics, so I could understand the ‘why’ behind making smart food and fitness choices. She was extremely knowledgeable, approachable and structured a program to suit my dietary needs and fitness goals. Highly recommend Angela!

I started working with Angela when I was in a huge fitness, nutrition & mental health slump. I had worked with several other nutrition and fitness coaches and had become completely dependent on tracking macros and weighing all my food for any sort of weight loss. Given where I was at mentally, I knew I needed to try something different. Angela took time to listen to what I needed and understand the barriers that were getting in the way. We developed manageable weekly goals that helped with both my mental & physical health. Making small weekly changes made me feel successful with very little effort. Our weekly goals took my current life style into account which made the tools and strategies she provided a lot more sustainable long term. I really appreciated how individualized my plan was and the support Angela provided.”

“I feel ready to tackle my health and nutrition goals alone. I am so thankful for you and things i have learned over the past 6 months. Trusting myself and how I am feeling is really the key. I know I didn’t do what I thought I wanted to do in the beginning but I am so glad I was able to learn how to mindful eat and build a balanced plate. This is the foundation I needed to master before I dive into macro counting when the time is right. Thank you for helping me see that and help me navigate that without feeling defeated in my goals. I really feel so grateful for you and the knowledge you shared with me! Thanks again!”

FAQ

Will you provide meal plans?

While it is easier for me and for you to see quick results with a strict meal plan with “approved” and “forbidden” foods, the results are not likely going to be maintainable.

Creating long lasting results is not about eliminating or restricting certain foods. Cutting out food groups or following a meal plan do NOT teach you the skills to choose what to eat and they certainly do not factor in your unique preferences.

Food is so much more than fuel. It’s also about connection, celebration, joy, culture, and comfort. Eliminating or restricting foods will likely backfire, especially if you are doing it with your favourite foods, the foods you grow up eating, or the foods your family eats.

Eliminations or meals plans also do not help you learn and hone the skills you need to make balanced meals, eat mindfully, stop eating when full, and incorporate foods you like to make your meals satisfying and enjoyable.

So, unlike diet coaches, instead of telling you what to eat and how much to eat, my approach with nutrition is focused on developing eating skills and fostering a solid relationship with food. We will work together to help you improve your skills on making balanced meals, eating slowly, tuning into your hunger and fullness cues, and stopping eating when full. We are going to figure out what foods you enjoy and what foods make you feel good. You will feel empowered and in control with food. You will confidently walk into any social situations and eat in a way that is satisfying and enjoyable, makes you feel good, and is aligned with your goals and values.

Are you a fat loss coach?

I will not say something like “You should give up on diets forever because diets don’t work” or “You shouldn’t want to lose weight.”

I believe in body autonomy and I don’t believe it is always problematic to have fat loss goals.

Diet means “food and drink regularly consumed.” I believe that a diet can “work” and improve your health and help you lose body fat when it is build on health-promoting behaviours that are enjoyable and sustainable for you.

As a coach, my job is not about telling you what to do and what not to do. My job is to guide you to explore the benefits and risks of your potential choices, help you better understand the deeper reasons behind your desire to pursue different goals, and support you in making your own decisions about your body.

Building a solid foundation is key to achieving and maintaining the fat loss results. Improving your relationship with food and your body, cultivating a positive body image, and practicing eating skills and emotional regulations are all part of the foundation to support healthy and sustainable fat loss.

If fat loss is a goal of yours, I will support you to find a way of eating that is enjoyable, realistic, healthy, and practical for you. I will help you build the skills and habits you need to not only reach your goal, but also sustain it.

What are eating skills?

Eating skills are skills we utilize before, during, and after eating. As skills, we can get better at doing them as we practice and learn from our experiences.

Eating skills include skills such as checking in with hunger before eating, managing (including honouring) your cravings, making balanced meals, checking in with fullness and satisfaction during a meal, stopping when full, and more.

The great part of practicing these skills is that we can bring these skills anywhere we go: birthday parties, weddings, dining out, summer BBQ, traveling, etc.

What sets you apart from other coaches?
  • I am a nutrition coach who absolutely loves ALL kinds of food. If you ever feel like you “love food too much” to eat in a way that supports your health and goals, I feel you. I genuinely want to help you find a way of eating that is enjoyable, realistic, practical, and sustainable based on your goals, preferences, lifestyle, and cultural background.
  • As someone who has had her fair share of struggle with nutrition, relationship with food, and mindset, I am fairly certain that I can relate to whatever it is you are struggling with to some degree. Even if I can’t relate, I strive to provide a safe space for you with empathy and compassion, so that we can work through your struggles to help you grow and thrive.
  • I have extensive training in behaviour change, mindset, coaching, and psychology. I have a master’s degree in behaviour science and I am a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. This means I have gone through graduate level education, completed supervised practicum, passed board certification exam, and kept up with continuing education requirement for my credential. I have gone through many additional certifications and trainings in body image, mindset, behaviour change, nutrition, and coaching. When I say I have the tools to support you to make the changes you need to make new habits and behaviour stick and transform your life, I mean it.
